I always forget to get Yoda out of my pack until I’m finished my hikes!
This post is just going to be the photos I took this morning while I was getting flogged by Mother Nature.
This is the kitchen at the cabin my family has had forever at Pecks Pond in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. It’s the smallest room in the house. There’s s fireplace in the living room, but it only pulls more cold air in from outside! So, I bring a cot into the kitchen, hang a blanket over the entire door opening, and bring in the heater! I have everything I need!
That’s what I left to go and torture myself!
Tracks down to my car. The moon was still out. It’s the Vernal Equinox!
Snow on the lake at sunrise. My Rav out front.
Leaving the Park office, all layered up! This is the approach Trail leading to the AT.
I started out on a snowmobile track.
The bugger looped and went back! I pressed on, following two snow shoers.
In the end, it was just me and the snow. Too much snow.
Only 10 to 12 inches most of the time. Deeper sections because of the drifting were tougher.
I got back after only 4 miles in 3 hours. Dragging. Here’s the Shelter.
Small but solid. No fire pit. Yes, a Privy.
Water is like gold out here. When I hiked Maryland, it was in a drought. I ran out of water twice and had to keep going until I found some. I’m telling you, like gold. I had no idea. Water, water, everywhere here.
That’s just the fireplace behind the Pecks cabin. I forgot to upload.
I don’t know what I’m going to do next. I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to do all that I thought I could before we leave for Cape Town.
Home tomorrow.
Hope for warm weather I guess.
