More Mohonk

The gatehouse to the Mohonk Mountain House.  Imagine a world where this was an entrance to a hotel! Craftsmanship more important and price and speed of production.  I don’t believe we will ever see these days again. Im headed to a place in the Catskills where they practice climbing.  You know, scaling sheer rock face. […]

Back to the OR

Yeah. That’s me with bandage received from the surgeon the first time around. That half of my thyroid was found to have a small Pappilary Cancer hiding inside. Sooo… the rest must come out. My lymph nodes are clear. Yay! But I’m back to the table for round two. Summer now starts sometime in July. […]

Not Yet

I just don’t feel very well today.  I will eat properly but the physical training will have to wait.  The surgery affected me more than I thought it would.  It’s only a week. I’ll give it a few more days. For no reason whatsoever.  I wanted to post this.  Me and my kid out to lunch […]

Tomorrow It Begins

It’s time to get back on track. Lovely to have my brother John Paul here. Wonderful to have Jennie visiting twice, but now I seriously begin training. Food plan. Regular hikes with my pack. To the gym twice a week. My insicion is healing well. I must not strain myself. Nothing to strenuous for at […]

Half Gone

See that patch?  That is where half my thyroid used to be! Sore and relieved I am.  I can eat soft food this morning. I was pretty nervous going into the surgery.  I think it was because it was my neck. A knife to other parts of my body wold have been easier.  The words […]

Nemo!

I hate mummy bags. Hate, hate, hate. Always, I have hated them. Enter: Nemo! Wide in all the right places and look at the cute little flap to help keep my chin warm! Awesome! A Nemo Rhythm. I can roll over. I can stick my knee out. I can sleep on my side. I can […]

Egypt Lake

Loaded up the Osprey and hike just 1 and 1/2 miles. Still wary of my right calf. Felt just ok. Nice trail! There is a whole system here at Promise Land State Park. Just 10 minutes down the road from Pecks. I will explore here…   🙂

Gray, Yes Gray

Enough of this trail name nonsense. I am Gray. Why not? I use the name. I have gray hair. I like cloudy days and people call me that in comments. Your right Linda. It has named me. Why do I toil so? Nature of the Beast within, I guess.  🙂

Mohonk Preserve

Coxing Kill Trail In the Mohonk Preserve outside New Paltz, NY, there are a number of beautiful and challenging trails. It’s about an hour and a half north on Rt 209 from Pecks Pond, Pa. I had been there before, in the Catskill Mountains, many years ago at a difficult time in my life. 1985 […]

First Overnight!

I loaded my Osprey Pack and hiked a bit to just see how my calf was. So far so good! Then loaded my kayak and paddled over to Rattlesnake Island for my first overnight with all my new gear! A forest fire has been raging for 5 days nearby. Thousands of acres leveled in the […]
